the hardest semester of my life is finally over.
me-time starts now.

Sunday, December 11, 2011

I would just like everyone to know that this white chocolate mocha expresso with hazelnut is just perfect. And I might as well pass over my wallet to Starbucks because that's the only place my money has been going lately. I keep rewarding myself with drinks and sweets for no reason. I should probably ace my finals first.

Good luck to everyone on your exams this week!

I cannot stop listening to Taylor Swift while I study for finals and work on final papers. I love her.
Especially for her song, Long Live.
tswift rockin' the Ellen show
I'm so, so excited for this semester to be over.
As much as I've loved some aspects of it, I've mostly just been swamped with work.
And I haven't had any time to hang out with friends, or keep in touch with family as much as I'd like to.
I guesssss this just means I'm that much closer to being welcomed to the real world. haha

The last couple of months have just flown by. Here are a few of my favorites :)
Halloween in the Penthouse. My residents and I haunted our hall for a competition.
We placed 2nd, but ours was obviously the best :)
The girls worked really hard and the 18th floor was completely transformed.
The girls and I headed to George Mason for Lyrical Art night featuring Ammar AlShukry and Boonaa Mohammed!
It was so amazing, and we were so happy to be there. I got to see a lot of my old friends that I had grown up with (Mosque kids<3)

Asma, Radwa, Marwa and I hanging out with George before the show.
The next night Samirah's friends and I surprised her with a super bridal shower/bachelorette party!
She was bombarded with silly string the minute she walked in.

party favors :)
delicious, delicious snacks. We had wayy too many and had to avoid sweets completely for the next month.
Just kidding, there's no way I could ever completely avoid sweets.
the greatest thing in the world that everyone should own at some point in their lives:

sparkling cider
WHAT IS THE BRIDE WEARING?? the blindfold is no excuse for this fashion nightmare!
It was so much fun; she had to wear everything that was given to her in this suitcase.
we also played Toilet-Paper Bride, Pin the Lips on the Frog, Who Knows the Bride Best, and Karaoke :)
My sister and I made these cupcakes for my residents :) It was a penthouse cupcake factory! Deliciousss.
I obviously need to cut down on sugary foods. I'm working on it!

Mountains Beyond Mountains

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Kairshma and I decided we needed to go hiking. We chose a challenging trail, packed our backpacks, and headed to the mountains.
long narrow road on our way to the mountains :)
walking down the road to the foot of Old Rag Mountain with Kairshma
let the climbing begin. It was hiking all of the way, then when we got towards the top, there was a lot of climbing
All those trips to the rock-climbing wall in our gym definitely paid off ;)
a 5 mile hike up, my first time climbing a mountain
we picnicked with our bagged Panera lunches on the big rocks at the top :) IT WAS SO COLD.
Kairshma and I met this really cool guy when we got to the mountain.
We actually hiked a lot of the way with him and he told us all these stories about his life. He's done so many things, and I think he's fulfilling all of his dreams, one at a time. He's worked so many different jobs and he's in school again to try his hand at even more!
"Climb a Mountain" is now crossed off my bucket list. It had been forever since I really hiked and it was such a great feeling to just take a weekend off and enjoy a nice trip to the mountains. Next time, we're camping. I haven't been in years and I'm dying to rent some tents and head back to the mountains.
It was really challenging, but SO worth it. I burned 2195 that day. I feel accomplished.
Wanna visit Old Rag Mountain and become a mountaineer like me? DO IT.

the constant variable

What they say about Virginia plates remains true; they're completely awesome. I stumbled across this license plate while with some friends downtown last Spring.
Tonight was kind of terrible. But then I randomly came across this photo in one of my old albums.
Keep your faith strong and you'll find strength in overcoming each barrier you face. Lesson of the day, eh? You can't really go wrong there.
Anyway, I thought you all might enjoy this. And now I'm making a list in my head of potential license plate letters for when I get my first car (or Vespa, whichever).
I just need a break from being busy! There's no place I'd rather be than home right now. I'm trying hard not to count down the days until winter break so that they'll go by faster. I'm excited for Samirah's wedding and Thanksgiving, which are both fast approaching.
Now back to the 10,000 assignments I have to do by tomorrow evening. I only wish time was on my side.
Will the lion sleep tonight? I highly doubt it. Not in this mighty jungle we call college.

Torian was creeping on me when he took this picture.
I was crossing the road back to my residence hall.
It is getting so cold outside; I could hardly stand it.
the ghetto piano is a trademark for our hall's community room
floor walks with Torian. He does it in style.
the view from my room. miniature style.

catch me if you can

a bunch of us got tickets to see Barack Obama speak at a university near our own
then afterwards my friend Irfan and I got to speak on a local news station!
(they just asked us what the atmosphere was like and how we felt, but it was an awesome 30 seconds of on-air time)
history, baby.
a weekly Holy Books Discussion led by the Baptist Collegiate Ministry
which doubled as a Wednesday night tea party with some great friends
Raspberry Pomegranate Green Tea (my new-found love)
Boba, or bubble tea, with my RA staff at a small lounge by campus
before my train ride home
love them<3, love boba<3
my friend, Thomas, waiting at the train station
our train was delayed for an hour
but we have great stories to tell now about two new friends we made (coming soon!)
dinner and milkshakes with my cousin, Adrienne, at a cafe on campus
a small birthday celebration! the girl deserves it.
and these milkshakes are to die for-- Pumpkin Pie (hers) & Chocolate Hazelnut (mine).

"I find the whole concept of being ‘sexy’ embarrassing and confusing. If I do an interview with photographs people desperately want to change me - dye my hair blonder, pluck my eyebrows, give me a fringe. Then there’s the choice of clothes. I know everyone wants a picture of me in a mini-skirt. But that’s not me. I feel uncomfortable. I’d never go out in a mini-skirt. It’s nothing to do with protecting the Hermione image. I wouldn’t do that. Personally, I don’t actually think it’s even that sexy. What’s sexy about saying, ‘I’m here with my boobs out and a short skirt, have a look at everything I’ve got?’ My idea of sexy is that less is more. The less you reveal the more people can wonder." - Emma Watson

multicultural competance its finest :)

helping Caitlin fix her hijab on Twin Day during training :)
I love anyone who just wants to steal my scarves and wear them for the day :) It's always so much fun!
[it was triplet day for us]
I love being an RA! So many amazing people with open minds, creativity, excitement and eagerness to learn.
At the block party during the first week of school the DJ played The Wobble just for the RAs :)

I had a dream last night, wherein I traveled to Spain.

"Dreams are the touchstones of our character." Henry David Thoreau

I was born to travel.

Who'll come with me?

Right now,

more than anything, I just want to be 25.
as weird as this sounds, and I'll probably regret saying it in 5 years, this is the age I've wanted to be for a while now. I just want to have everything figured out. And I know that probably will never happen, but it'd be a couple steps closer, right?

I had the most delicious pomegranate raspberry green tea tonight at a holy books discussion (which also doubled as a tea party). It was lovely.

I miss my summers.

poetry - inspiration

spoken poetry like this, it inspires me to pick up a pen and journal, and see if any of my thoughts put into words can flow like Robalu Gibson's, this poet, this friend :)

home is wherever I'm with you

people, let me tell you 'bout my besttt frienddd

I'm not quiet sure why, but this is the funniest pose to me. I always want to do it.

like a G.

pink eyeshadow
purple liner

We don't really look alike in these pictures, but I swear we could pass as twins most days.

Lately I've had absolutely NO time to do anything but attend classes and organization meetings, and be an RA. I love keeping busy, but I also love breathing :) haha
I've kind of missed out on everyone's recent posts, but I hope to catch up with you all soon! It's my junior year and I've finally started my upper-level Social Work courses. Hearing about poverty and disadvantaged peoples in class just makes me so anxious to get out of school and into the field. I already have 10 million research papers and projects to do, as well as lots of reading. It's all very interesting, but can someone point me in the direction of time? Because I could definitely use some more of it.
